In what was one of the most anticipated engagements of the summer, Nathaniel Rateliff finally performed his postponed run of three shows for enthusiastic fans at Red Rocks earlier this week. The fervor for these shows to finally come to fruition was shared by band and audience alike and the outpouring of joy was evident long before anyone took the stage.
The show was a hit parade of both the Night Sweats’ catalog and Nathaniel’s own solo work as Rateliff and company delivered a dynamic show with the most reverent of songs like “Redemption” standing strong alongside the highest of high energy songs like “I Need Never Get Old”, “S.O.B” and “Hey Mama.” Many of the tunes performed throughout the night earned an audience sing-a-long so loud it threatened to drown-out Rateliff himself; an affirmation of mutual love for the music’s deep meaning and Rateliff’s delivery. Nathaniel commented on the response to “And It’s Still Alright” as the best ever.
The show was a soul revival and Rateliff and his powerhouse band were the evangelical leaders in the greatest church of Rock-n-Roll in the land, Red Rocks. My cup runneth over for which I am grateful.
