Ott & The All Seeing I – December 21st – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Estimated read time 6 min read

All the usual suspects came out early and stayed late for the dual-sided Mystic Mayhem Masquerade Ball at Cervantes’ last Saturday. The venue was comfortably full at an early hour, undoubtedly due to fervor for Denver-based live EDM band Octopus Nebula, who paved the way for the highly anticipated Ott & The All Seeing I. On The Other Side were Project Aspect and Future Simple Project. Both sides had a lot of good energy circulating around, along with plenty glow sticks, hula hoops and other various light-up toys. It was indeed a veritable circus.

moe. – December 6th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

As the temperatures dropped last Friday in Denver, people packed into the Ogden to see the Progressive Rock band moe. kick off their winter tour. Smiles swarmed the crowd as old friends reunited as the inevitably do when moe. comes to town; it’s nice to be amongst decent people when you are in a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd. The 30-year old band delivered an impressive performance; the only disappointment from the evening was its inevitable end–not that it had ended early, but simply that it couldn’t go on forever.

Thomas Dolby – November 14th – Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

The scenery for Thomas Dolby’s performance at the Bluebird Theater was appropriately bizarre last Thursday night. The eccentric UK Rock/Pop musician and producer was well known in the 80s for songs like “She Blinded Me with Science” and “Hyperactive.” While you don’t hear Mr. Dolby’s music too often these days, he is still alive and kicking. The show consisted of three parts, a screening of his film The Invisible Lighthouse, a Q&A session, and a live performance. The movie was thoughtful and intriguing, as was the the Q&A portion, but technical difficulties clouded the live performance of this once world-famous Pop star.

Bonobo – November 1st – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 3 min read

After a long week of Halloween celebrations, the mood of the crowd at the Fillmore Auditorium last Friday seemed perfect for a downtempo evening of grooving with UK Electronica Producer Bonobo and his highly anticipated live band. No one was complained about the presence of dance floor space–it was cozy, but not claustrophobic, and on Halloween weekend in Denver, that is a rarity. Costumes, of course, abounded, and smiles too as the fans filed in and readied themselves for an evening of soulful music.
