Andrew Bird – May 24th – Paramount Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Twenty and thirtysomethings dressed in their best flannel filled the historic Paramount Theatre Tuesday for multi-instrumentalist indie-rock wonder Andrew Bird. The show marked the end of a nine week tour and it was incredible to watch the master at work. The night was a river of standard indie rock that readily pivoted to something else entirely its own. Seeing Andrew Bird live is such a refreshing experience. His musical genius, penchant for whimsy, and willingness to play with tempo and sound made his show a memorable musical experience.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival – June 19th-22nd – Telluride, CO

Estimated read time 14 min read

Telluride Bluegrass. Once you’ve been there, whether it’s for a day, a week, or forty consecutive years, it becomes part of you. It’s the smiles on the faces of the performers as they look out from the stage over the most beautiful landscape their songs and melodies have ever echoed across. It is the meticulous, almost anal-retentive, organization of the event that somehow translates to a vibe conducive to dancing and singing and a passionately laid-back attitude from some of the most fervent music lovers anywhere.

Larimer Lounge was swarming with people for Daughter’s sold-out Monday night show last week. A younger crowd sporting flannels and peasant dresses, many with “X’s” marked on their hands, filled in around the small stage creating an exciting and intimate ambiance. Elana Tonra’s voice was just as hauntingly beautiful as it is on the record. What you hear is what you get, only with much more emotion. Overall, Daughter’s performance was poignant, evocative, and simply beautiful.

Andrew Bird – August 15th – Chautauqua Auditorium

Estimated read time 5 min read

Andrew Bird is a musical genius in every sense of the word. His understanding of sounds far outshines that of almost anyone else on the scene. Artists often work looping machines and play multiple instruments, but never like this. He builds the songs one piece at a time with a hand as steady as a surgeon’s. He captures your attention with not only his sounds, but the words that accompany them. This show was easily one of the musical highlights of the summer!
