Dazzle Jazz on a Sunday night is a mellow place. It was wonderfully warm and friendly and people were quietly sipping cocktails, chatting with spouses or friends, and enjoying dinner. It’s a nice change of pace to see a show at 6pm when everyone in the room is on hand to listen to, and enjoy the music. Sunday night featured Charles McPherson and a 60 minute set that was heavy on notes and dripping with talent.

Charles McPherson was born in Joplin, Missouri and moved to Detroit at age nine. After growing up in Detroit, he studied with the renowned pianist Barry Harris and started playing jazz professionally at age 19. He moved from Detroit to New York in 1959 and performed with Charles Mingus from 1960 to 1972. McPherson will give two performances per days at Dazzle Jazz on Saturday and Sunday.
