Zappa Plays Zappa – February 14th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

The crowd was fittingly bizarre at the Ogden Theatre last Friday as fans old and new made their way in the doors for Zappa Plays Zappa. The late musical genius Frank Zappa is remembered for his off-beat sound, insanely intricate songwriting and preposterously hilarious lyrics. On Friday Dweezil Zappa and his band covered his father’s ‘Roxy & Elsewhere’ album in its entirety. The performance included theatrical elements, an array of musical instruments and talent, and a whole lot of perplexing lyrics–it was a perfect homage to Frank Zappa.

The line wrapped all the way around the Fillmore Auditorium early on Saturday as Lotus fans made their way to the second show of the band’s two-night run in Denver. Despite some discord about the show’s early set times, it was a great concert. Lotus has a special way of letting their Colorado fans how much they enjoy their company, and they delivered all that on more on Saturday. It was a truly “spiritualizing” evening; one that will certainly be remembered by local fans for years to come.

RJD2 – January 31st – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 5 min read

The kids packed into the Bluebird for RJD2’s sold-out show last Friday, the first in a two night run. The DJ/Producer out of Philadelphia, PA has been perfecting his art since 1993 and is something of a genius when it comes to managing his music. Often show-goers scoff at DJs for their “talents” (aka pushing buttons). To be sure, there were no utterances of this nature during RJ’s performance on Friday as he danced between several turntables and various sound making consoles, proving that without a doubt, not all DJs were created equal.
