Ladysmith Black Mambazo & Johnny Clegg Band – August 9th – Denver Botanic Gardens

The Denver Botanic Gardens were taken over last week by two legendary bands from South Africa, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Johnny Clegg Band. While Ladysmith focused on a cappella music and Clegg on Rock based Pop music, both artists showcased their African roots in unique and different ways. In some ways the evening was as much a history lesson as it was a concert.

Random Rab – February 18th – Summit Music Hall

Random Rab has made a huge name for himself in the downtempo and underground electronic scenes over the past decade and he has found a lot of his followers, and the sound we hear from him today, while performing sunrise sets at Burning Man. His performance on Saturday night at The Summit Music Hall can only be described as visceral as he blended mindbending electronic music with stunning visuals.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo – January 26th – The Boulder Theater

To be a widely recognized band of musicians, or a musical collective, is an achievement in and of itself, but to be a 50 year old Grammy winning musical institution is a feat not accomplished by many. For Ladysmith Black Mambazo this is a reality. The all male a cappella group was founded in 1960 by Joseph Shabalala and last Thursday at The Boulder Theater the group demonstrated why they are they still a powerhouse of an ensemble with an absolutely jaw dropping performance that left our reviewer at a loss for words.
