Northwest Denver Folk Festival – April 21st – The Oriental Theater

The Oriental Theatre was home to the inaugural Northwest Denver Folk Festival this past Saturday. The spacious theater was divided to three “stages” thanks to some creative planning. There was a band in the lobby, a band on the main stage, and a band at the back of the seating area across from the stage. The crowd was every bit as diverse as the acts they came to see. There were elderly folks seated at tables, little kids running around, and the flannel clad folks you’d expect to see.

Tennis – February 16th – The Bluebird Theatre

Thursday night was a special occasion for the Denver music scene. It was a night where yet another local band poised for the big time, would play new songs for the hometown crowd. Tennis, the Denver-based pop band, has released their second full length album, “Young and Old,” and celebrated at The Bluebird before hitting the road on a 26-stop tour that will zigzag the band across the country, ending May 8th in Austin, TX. There is no band in any genre that sounds like Tennis. They are pushing the limits of Pop, and that’s refreshing.
