Primus – May 16th – Red Rocks Amphitheater

Over the course of the night last Tuesday, Les Claypool showcased why he is one of the most innovative and creative bass players in the world. After a 75 minute from the weird and wonderful Claypool Lennon Delirium, Primus delivered a varied setlist that showcased crowd pleasers like “My Name Is Mud,” “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver,” and “Jerry Was a Racecar Driver” alongside some deeper cuts and even the live debut of a brand new song called “Seven.” The crowd got a little bit of everything, and it was glorious.

Jason Isbell – September 14th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

When Jason Isbell took the stage at Red Rocks everyone in attendance knew we were in for a special evening, but what the master song-smith and his band delivered over the course of nearly two hours was one of the most profoundly moving events of the summer. Simply put, this show had it all and, judging by the crowd’s passionate response to each and every song and their willingness to sing-along with every couplet of the evening, Mr. Isbell and his band will be back on The Rocks one day. That day can’t come soon enough.

Hall & Oates – September 12th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Daryl Hall & John Oates performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre last Monday was one of the most intimate performances on their summer schedule. The Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame inductees packed the Rocks with vigorous fans wanting a hit parade performance that few can do like Hall & Oates. The sold-out show was filled with a largely middle aged audience who, despite not being familiar with the supporting acts, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings followed by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, totally went crazy during each set.

STS9 – September 9th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

STS9 returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for their 19th and 20th shows at the hallowed venue. The band has taken on a looser sound with the arrival of new bassist Alana Rocklin in recent years. The latest tour has allowed Sound Tribe 2.0 to dig into older tracks that have slowly disappeared from the rotation while exploring the funky sounds of the recently released The Universe Inside. This weekend it was all Tribe from start to finish.

“Rage Rocks” became the moniker last Wednesday as Prophets of Rage took Red Rocks Amphitheater by storm. The Prophets of Rage are a super-group made up of the core 3 players of Rage Against the Machine; Tom Morrello on guitar, Tim Commerford on bass, and Brad Wilk on drums, also featuring Chuck D & DJ Lord of Public Enemy, and B Real of Cypress Hill.

Jackson Browne – August 22nd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

A near capacity audience was treated to a night with Jackson Browne last Monday. The acclaimed singer song writer is currently on his 2016 summer tour bringing his signature sound to the masses and, like always, Red Rocks elevated the experience. Last Thursday’s late-summer evening with Gov’t Mule, moe. and Blackberry Smoke was a highly anticipated date on the Red Rocks calendar. As fans arrived, the more overtly branded Mule fans heavily populated the crowd. Not to be discounted: moe.’s summer tour has been choked full of great performances and wild energy so there was plenty of anticipation in the venue for the New York rockers that split the bill.
