It’s always one of the highlights of the summer for many and, despite the rain on Friday, this year was no different. Josh Ritter & The Milk Carton Kids – August 12th – Botanic Gardens

Estimated read time 4 min read

In a state where we are fortunate enough to have some of the most beautiful venues to hear music in, The Denver Botanic Gardens is right up there on the list alongside Red Rocks, The Mish, and Planet Bluegrass. It’s picturesque gardens and lush, “in the round” grass amphitheater, is an almost ideal place to enjoy a summertime concert and last week a modest crowd gathered with their picnics for a folky evening with The Milk Carton Kids and Josh Ritter.

The Milk Carton Kids – May 2nd – Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Bluebird Theater was a full house this past Thursday night for California Folk duo The Milk Carton Kids’ sold out show. The Milk Carton kids hit Denver in the middle of their North American tour in support of The Ash & Clay, which was released back in March. The Bluebird was filled from front to back with folding chairs and winter coats saving seats, both quite the unusual sight. In the end the hilarious and heartfelt set made for a memorable experience and a truly great show.

The Milk Carton Kids – August 30th – Swallow Hill

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Milk Carton Kids put on an excellent show at Swallow Hill last week and they left people with non-stop laughs, even better sounding versions of their recorded songs, and a whole preview of a new album. The duo’s voices fit so well together it’s hard to believe that they could have never met. It was more than anyone could have asked for. In the past year acts like The Civil Wars have taken off and The Milk Carton Kids, based on the quality of their live work, should be the next folk duo to break into the mainstream.

Crooked Still – September 15th – L2 Arts & Culture Center

Estimated read time 5 min read

Crooked Still took concert goers on a musical journey through time on Thursday night as they masterfully reinterpreted material ranging from Claude Ely’s 1934 “Ain’t No Grave” to Paul Simon’s 1973 classic “American Tune.” Each and every song was sung and played with understanding, as if the members of Crooked Still had contributed to the material when it was originally written.
