Beanstalk Music and Arts Festival – June 12-14 – State Bridge

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Second Annual Beanstalk Music and Arts Festival took over State Bridge this past weekend in beautiful Bond, CO. Youths in dreads mingled with bearded older folks, while bright-eyed flower children rubbed shoulders with the tenured hippie chicks. At State Bridge, families will party with the young and the restless, just so long as their kids are equipped with the most state of the art headphones. Music brings these crews together and they couldn’t be happier.

Local Natives – April 26th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

A polite crowd of texting teens and twenty-somethings gathered at the Ogden Theatre on Friday to experience the sound of Local Natives, a sound that was relaxed but exuberant, with a driving but hazy tenor to it. The group delivered a noteworthy performance as fans used their various social outlets to share their excitement for the event. It was amusing on several levels, to say the least.

DeadPhish Orchestra – March 8th – Cervantes’ Other Side

Estimated read time 4 min read

Last Saturday night at Cervantes’ Other Side the usual Denver Jamband suspects were out in force to groove to the tunes of the “daddies and granddaddies” of the Jam scene: Phish and the Grateful Dead as DeadPhish Orchestra delivered two monster sets of favorites culled from the catalogs of both seminal jambands. From “Birds of a Feather” to a perfectly executed “You Enjoy Myself” and “Birdsong” to “Cumberland Blues” these boys proved yet again they’ve got the chops.

The excitement in the air was palpable at 1stBank Center last week. Costumes abounded, glitter and blinking lights dazzled the eyes, and thousands of balloons hung suspended from the ceiling in giant nets. A new universe is created, one in which both entities lock into a cosmic groove and never let go. This is the relationship between the band Stir Fried and the Bianchi brothers of Quixote’s and Sancho’s fame. Now, yet another music venue can be added to that list, The Donkey OT, where Stir Fried will help to kick off the Grand Opening this weekend!

String Cheese Incident – December 2nd & 3rd – New York City

Estimated read time 8 min read

These two nights in New York City showcased two very different sides of The String Cheese Incident. It was almost a Jekyll and Hyde situation. I went in to Friday night with great expectations for a show that would keep us dancing late into the night, and instead got one of the slower, and darker, String Cheese shows that I have ever seen. On Saturday, the boys put their best foot forward and gave a show full of raging peaks, massive sandwiches, and even a Radiohead cover.

The place was packed and anticipating a full on production. The band worked the stage like pros and took us on a journey of Funk, Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock and Jazz, but with Hip-Hop firmly in the driver’s seat.
