The one summarizing thought about this year’s YarmonyGrass: not enough! Just two days of hardly strictly bluegrass on the Colorado River was not enough. The weekend boasted blue skies, warm temperatures and so many friendly faces gathered at Rancho Del Rio for the best of what Colorado has to offer of Bluegrass and string music. Mountain air, clear skies and incredible once in a lifetime collaborations made YarmonyGrass 2014 one of the most beautiful and unforgettable summer festivals to date.

This weekend brings the annual YarmonyGrass back to Rancho Del Rio, high up in the Rockies–because there’s no better place in the world for a Bluegrass festival. A favorite on the Colorado summer music schedule, YarmonyGrass provides a variety of native and nationally renowned names in the Bluegrass and string band communities. Groove Music and Arts Festival weighed heavy with Funk, with a liberal helping of Bluegrass and Jam on the side. It also included camping, at a very modest price, and several workshops. Families were strongly encouraged to come; children were free and there was a special camping area for families near the main stage area. While the placement of the bands on the schedule wasn’t perfect, the musical selection was fantastic, the venue was gorgeous and the people who came were equally beautiful. All in all, it was an amazing weekend.

Portland Americanagrass rockers, Fruition posted up at The Other Side last Friday night for a WinterWondergrass warmup. After last fall’s opening slot on the Greensky Bluegrass Fall tour closing run at the Gothic, it’s no surprise Cervantes’ Other Side was packed. While many of them were most likely newer fans, many were singing along with the band on every song. The front of the room was full of energy, and the whole night had a great vibe.

Part 1 of 2 – Approximately 140 miles west of Denver sits a plot of land at the base of Yarmony Mountain. Tucked away there, right on the banks of the Colorado River, is the picturesque resort known as Rancho Del Rio. Once a year hundreds of beautiful people turn off their cell phones, say goodbye to society, and descend upon this secluded paradise. YarmonyGrass is the reason for this pilgrimage into the Rockies. The brainchild of festival curator Andrew Mconathy; Yarmonygrass has become the premier Jamgrass festival in Colorado.
