Other Lives – December 14th – The Hi-Dive
The Hi-Dive was packed on Wednesday night when we walked in with pretty high expectations for a mind blowing show. To be honest it didn’t quite live up to all the hype. The mysterious, dark, brooding indie-folk of Other Lives sounded good but maybe they were saving something for the next time they come through this area with Radiohead where the big stage at the 1st Bank Center and all the power of a mega-sound system behind them will undoubtedly win them hundreds of new fans.

David Dondero may be the best musician you have never heard of. You can’t really dance to his music, the cyborg-manned radio stations won’t introduce you to him, he doesn’t travel with a band, and he stays in one spot on stage for his entire set, hunkered down and intense. FROM THE ARCHIVES: Joe Pug
With Joe Pug returning to the Hi-Dive on Friday, we are running this article by Tim Dwenger that was published in The Marquee last year, just before Pug came to town on his Ten Dollar Tour. Despite some minor sound issues that plagued the October he must have liked the room enough to come back and give it another shot. He is nothing short of an amazing songwriter and his star is rising quickly.
PICK OF THE WEEK: Joe Pug – Friday May 6th – The Hi-Dive
The folk tradition is about great songs. It’s about the music, it’s about the lyrical images that the artist creates, and it’s about the sense of community that surrounds the whole experience. In recent years, Chicago native Joe Pug has calmly established himself as one of the rising stars of the scene simply by believing in himself and the quality of his art.
