Over the last ten years Assembly of Dust has crafted a unique sound that recalls the likes of The Band, Traffic and Neil Young. They have taken that early 70’s Americana swagger, put their own funky spin on it. Hooky melodies, poetic lyrics, and a profound depth of musicianship prompted USA Today to say Assembly of Dust has what it takes to “dazzle the Alt-Country universe.”
It goes without saying that Denver has an incredible music scene but what’s even more important to realize is that on any given night there are countless “local” bands playing their hearts out for legions of devoted fans. These are not The String Cheese Incidents, Frays, or Yonder Mountain String Bands of our scene, these are their heirs, the next generation of bands who are sure to keep the Colorado music scene on the map.

Papadosio has done something unique in the Jamband world–they have skillfully combined a singer-songwriter stance with a group of top-notch musicians operating outside the normal tropes of the Jamband canon. This is why they have been so successful, because they have rejected imitation and embraced innovation. Last Friday night Listen Up Denver! caught some of that innovation firsthand.
Last Friday night J2G Live and Listen Up Denver! threw one heck of a dance party. With jams from the 1960s all the way up to this summer, Colorado musicians from a variety of different bands led the crowd into a groovetastic time warp of wondrous proportions. The lineup included David Murphy of STS9 & Members of The Motet, Euforquestra, Rose Hill Drive, YAMN, Fox Street Allstars, The Congress, DubSkin, Kinetix, Octopus Nebula, The Whales, and many more.
Revolutionary technology meets a revolutionary message in Papadosio. Melding progressive rock with psychedelia, folk with electronica, and dance music with jam, the quintet has amassed a dedicated following of thousands of likeminded individuals sowing the seeds of unity and spreading the sounds of exaltation. Papadosio is blowing up and every time these guys come to Denver they play a bigger venue so don’t miss your chance to see them in an intimate setting like The Ogden!
J2G Live and Listen Up Denver! are known for their yearly Revenge of the 90’s extravaganza, and now they are throwing a dance party that knows no limits. This Friday night Colorado’s best musicians will be traveling through decades of dance music guided by the Dance Party Time Machine. From the 60’s to Today, this show will jump from era to era, placing your dancing feet in various time periods, while your tab stays at Cervantes’.

Imagine a place where you wake up alongside a quiet river surrounded by rolling hills, views of snow-capped mountains in the distance, a brief walk to yoga and paddle boarding, live music in a very intimate outdoor venue, old and new friends everywhere you turn. Got it? Well, that’s State Bridge. Some highlights for many of the festival goers included The Magic Beans, Fruition, Govinda, Mountain Standard Time, Whitewater Ramble, Ishi, and Jaden Carlson—a 12 year old guitarist and singer/songwriter from Boulder.
