“Raise The Roof” Block Party – June 14th – Lowenstein Complex
On June 14th The Denver Film Society gathered hundreds of people on their rooftop for a neighborhood block party called “Raise The Roof.” This first event will be followed by two more during the summer, and we already can’t wait for July’s “Raise the Roof” event. A true neighborhood block party brings the community together! There is room for tons more folks up on the top of that parking structure, so gather your friends and neighbors, and get up to the roof in July!

Chella Negro has been spicing up the Denver Folk scene for the past few years, and connecting with her audience might be one of the main reasons for Negro’s success. A stage performer since elementary school, Negro doesn’t just simply play her songs; she lets you into her life via stage banter and meaningful lyrics. Listen Up Denver! had a chat with the woman we once dubbed the “hipster queen of the folk roller derby ball,” and her charm on the phone was just as captivating as on the stage.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Ian Cooke – Raise the Roof Party – June 14th
The Denver Film Society is sponsoring three neighborhood block parties and the first one is this Thursday, June 14th from 5-9 p.m. at the Lowenstein CulturePlex. The CulturePlex rooftop will open at 5 p.m., music begins at 6 p.m. and this week will feature the Avant-Pop of Ian Cooke. Girl Walk // All Day – December 22nd – Denver Film Center on Colfax
When I sat down to take in the Denver Premier of the new film “Girl Walk // All Day” last week, I heard something I had never heard in a movie theatre before: “Please feel free to get up and dance at any time during the film.” Well, I have to admit, I only made it twenty minutes in before I was dancing in the aisles and the open spaces of the theater, and more than half of the film goers joined me. What started as a film screening at ten, ended as a dance party at almost two in the morning.
