Westword Music Showcase – June 23rd – The Golden Triangle

The 18th annual Westword Music Showcase took over Denver’s Golden Triangle on the 23rd as 15 venues hosted hundreds of local and national bands in the 104 degree heat. On the blacktopped area in front of the main stage, people’s shoes sizzled in the sun and the music was as hot as the pavement. We sweated, smiled and danced to a wide array of sounds. The nationally touring acts on the main stage added power to the event, and the energy Girl Talk put out at the end of the night nearly surged the grid.

Wakarusa – Mulberry Mountain, AR – Part 1

Two weekends ago, Wakarusa, and it’s army of party people and music lovers, lit up Mulberry Mountain in Arkansas. With acts ranging from The Weir, Robinson, Greene Acoustic Trio, to the electro madness of Pretty Lights, the festival offered something for everyone. The Listen Up Denver! crew had such a blast that we are going to split our report into two articles. The first focuses on days one and two of the festival, and there is more to come. Girl Walk // All Day – December 22nd – Denver Film Center on Colfax

When I sat down to take in the Denver Premier of the new film “Girl Walk // All Day” last week, I heard something I had never heard in a movie theatre before: “Please feel free to get up and dance at any time during the film.” Well, I have to admit, I only made it twenty minutes in before I was dancing in the aisles and the open spaces of the theater, and more than half of the film goers joined me. What started as a film screening at ten, ended as a dance party at almost two in the morning.

Krupnick had been wanting to work with dancer Anne Marsen in creating a music video of “epic proportions” set to the Girl Talk album, “All Day.” A year later, the 71 minute film is finished and will be making it’s Colorado premiere on the 22nd.
