Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls – January 25th – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 3 min read

Twenty and thirtysomethings, most dressed in what could be described as mix of “punk casual,” mingled around the Fillmore as Frank Turner sang “Can’t I just spend the next four years at a punk show. Can’t I just spend the next four years getting wasted?” as he opened a cathartic evening of Folk-Punk. This new track, entitled “The Sand In The Gears,” is a call-to-arms in response to the election and subsequent shit-show of Donald Trump.

Australia’s own “John Butler Trio” brought their folksy jams to Colorado’s world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Friday night, as part of a two show run here in the Denver area. Night one took place in Boulder, at the intimate Fox Theatre, while the Red Rocks show took on a spiritual feel even before Butler took the stage and continued throughout evening. JBT came out focused, playing a tight and emotionally raw show for their fans who responded in kind.

Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls – October 9th – The Ogden

Estimated read time 3 min read

Last Wednesday Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls turned The Ogden Theatre into a Punk Rock church as a nearly full house sang along, pumped their fists and generally swooned as Turner and his band serenaded them for 90 minutes. There were teens moved from their angst by Turner’s lyrics and buttoned up 9-to-5ers who had recently become hooked on his Folk-Punk, dancing right alongside 30 somethings who clearly had been fans of Turner’s Post-Hardcore project, Million Dead. Somehow it all seemed to work perfectly.

Frank Turner & Andrew Jackson Jihad – October 7th – The Marquis Theater

Estimated read time 5 min read

There was a sign that read: “Yes! We are sold out. No more tickets, not even one,” above the box office window at the Marquis Theater on Friday night. Veteran punk rocker Frank Turner was in Denver with the folk punk duo Andrew Jackson Jihad. While Andrew Jackson Jihad met all expectations, it was a bit disappointing to see Frank Turner with a backing band instead of completely solo.
