Jackie Greene – June 20th – Gothic Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

Last Friday night The Gothic Theatre was the place to be for good ol’ fashioned Americana Rock-n-Roll. Jackie Greene was in the house and while he didn’t bring the hippest and youngest crowd in town out to see him perform, his fans are loyal and passionate. There was plenty of elbow room to move and dance on the floor of the Art Deco theater but it by no means felt empty as aging Deadheads put back their whiskey shots and puffed joints while their more conservative contemporaries pretended not to notice.

The sweet smell of Colorado’s newest legal herb hung in the air outside The Paramount last Thursday night as hundreds of Deadheads milled around under the marquee with fingers in the air hoping to score a ticket at the last minute. Bob Weir and Jackie Greene were in town and they delivered a three set show that was heavy on Bob Dylan material and, though it showcased a bit of Weir’s uneven side, everyone still left with a big smile on their face.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Bob Weir – Paramount Theatre – December 13th

Estimated read time 3 min read

Bob Weir stops into The Paramount this week on his solo acoustic tour and by all accounts this is a must see show as he transforms from the front man to the man up front, going it alone like the archetypal cowboy. It’s Weir boiled down: passionate singing, masterful songwriting, unique guitar work, and surely some hilarious one-liners delivered in his classic deadpan style. So ante up to play another hand with Bobby but don’t be surprised when he lays down a Royal Flush, Aces back-to-back.

Weir, Robinson, Greene Trio – June 4th – Chautauqua Auditorium

Estimated read time 5 min read

Despite the hordes of people who filled the beautiful park that surrounds the old barn under the Flatirons in Boulder, Monday night at Chautauqua proved to be the listening session stop of the group’s three night Colorado run. The 19th century room was the perfect setting for this trio to strut their stuff and each of them commented on it at least once from the stage. When it was all over they had truly rocked our souls. The power of music is undeniable and Bobby, Chris and Jackie delivered a show won’t soon be forgotten.

Weir, Robinson, Greene Trio – June 2nd – The Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 5 min read

When the Weir Robinson Greene Trio rolled through the front range for three dates that kicked off on Saturday night in Boulder, it was not only a Deadheads dream come true, but also dream come true for fans of The Black Crowes, Chris Robinson, Jackie Greene, and the other projects these three great musicians have been involved in over the years. The three men came together with a shared for Folk, Blues, and the deeply rooted traditions of American music and their setlists proved that as they didn’t repeat a song over the course of six sets of music.
