Galactic & The Greyboy Allstars – March 17th – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 4 min read

Last Saturday night, the Fillmore Auditorium was as full as I’d seen it in years as droves of tireless revelers showed up to support two bands who have both previously played sold-out headlining shows in Denver. It was St. Patrick’s Day, and although most of this crowd had been drinking all day under the bright Colorado sky, they definitely weren’t slowing down.

The String Cheese Incident – December 28th – 1stBank Center

Estimated read time 5 min read

Just like last year, the first night of String Cheese Incident’s New Year’s run at 1st Bank Center was relatively sparsely attended. The room was a little over half-full and though it allowed for plenty of room to dance and move freely from the floor to the stands, the room lacked the electric energy that can make a String Cheese show such a magical experience. There were flashes of brilliance and some powerful horn fueled jams, but when all was said and done this was just an average incident.

Robert Walter’s 20th Congress – August 16th – Cervantes’ Other Side

Estimated read time 5 min read

Cervantes’ Other Side just be made for funky, soulful music, and considering the history of Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, maybe it was. The presence of Robert Walter’s 20th Congress soaked the walls with more soul. The night had a special meaning for local openers Fox Street Allstars, whose bond as a band has been solidified by trips to New Orleans Jazz Fest in search of Jazz, Funk and Soul. Lead guitarist James Dumm excitedly stated, “we have been listening to this band since we were 16. This guy means a lot to us.”

Slightly Stoopid & Cypress Hill – April 20th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 4 min read

Ahh 4/20 in Colorado, you can smell it in the air! With the recent passing of Amendment 64 Colorado has become a hot spot for all things “4/20 friendly” and this past weekend was a prime example. From the first ever Cannabis Cup hosted on U.S. soil, to Snoop Lion’s performance Friday night, to this amazing line up; Colorado has taken their stance on recreational Marijuana use and the word is out. Last Saturday there was no better place to be than Red Rocks as Slightly Stoopid and Cypress Hill took to the stage to celebrate what appears to be our new state holiday.

The Greyboy Allstars – April 12th & 13th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Estimated read time 6 min read

Last weekend The Greyboy Allstars came straight out of the 70’s on a groove of Funk, Soul, and Jazz. The band was in town supporting their new album, ‘Inland Emperor,’ which dropped this week, and the crowd filled in fast and early at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom on both Friday and Saturday nights. Supported by Dumpstaphunk on Friday night and Denver’s own The Congress on Saturday, it was a weekend of unforgettable music, and luckily all three bands have new albums out to keep the party going.

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe – October 31st – The Ogden

Estimated read time 2 min read

Karl Denson brought his Tiny Universe to Denver again this Halloween and this time he funked things up a bit with a night of Disco classics that brought the costumed masses to the dance floor. With a set that touched on everything from Barry White to Blondie to the late Donna Summers, KDTU definitely went to “Funkytown” and took The Ogden with them! It wasn’t Studio 54, but it was as close as we’re gonna get here in Denver in 2012!
