Vampire Weekend – October 9th – Red Rocks

After a long six years, Vampire Weekend returned to Colorado for two late season Red Rocks show this past week. Wednesday’s show was the second chance for fans to catch live versions from this year’s Father of the Bride, which were featured heavily among a total of 34 songs. The new album and their live shows have garnered comparisons to jam bands, which I’m not sure I completely see, but Wednesday was certainly a new Vampire Weekend compared to the band I had seen on previous tours.

Bob Mould – May 7th – Boulder Theater

“Joy” isn’t a word that usually ascribed to Bob Mould’s music, but Mould’s set at the Boulder Theater last weekend was joyous and even a little exuberant. The veteran Punk rocker showed no signs of slowing down at the Boulder Theater, powering through a 23 song set that embraced his full history from the Punk sound he pioneered in the 80s and 90s to his current solo album, ‘Patch the Sky.’

The Postal Service – May 30th – Red Rocks

A warm nostalgia descended on Red Rocks Thursday night, as anyone who came of age at approximately the same time lives were being changed by the Shins showed up to revisit those overly wrought youthful emotions. Any wisdom or perspective gained in the ten years since The Postal Service’s one and only album, ‘Give Up,’ can’t be confirmed, but a quick scan of the crowd indicated that most had at least conceded victory to the more responsible ideas of fleece jackets, close-toed shoes, and drinking in moderation.

Of Monsters and Men & Vampire Weekend – May 20th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Colorful umbrellas and rain ponchos dotted the seats at Red Rocks Amphitheater last Monday when a chilled out, pleasant mix of young hipsters and middle aged business types turned out to see the co-headlining show with Icelandic Folk-Poppers Of Monsters and Men and the hipster answer to Paul Simon, Vampire Weekend.
