Santigold’s concert at the Denver Botanic Gardens on July 6th, 2023 (part of the annual Music at the Gardens series) was extraordinary, especially considering she sprained her ankle when she tripped over one of the kid’s toys just days before the show. Her unwavering spirit and passion for her craft were evident as her dancers helped her down the path, through the gathered crowd, and to the stage. They were following a man holding crutches.

Initially, it seemed Santigold would perform from a flower-covered throne the crew set up on the stage after an hour-long DJ set. However, as the music filled the air and the crowd’s anticipation peaked, she “miraculously” found the strength to stand (and even dance a little) throughout the set, defying the constraints of her injury.

Santigold’s ability to rise above her injury and deliver a captivating performance left the audience in awe. It was a reminder of the power of music to uplift and transcend physical limitations, inspiring both Santigold and those fortunate enough to be there and dance with her.

Wearing a white dress, surrounded by her band and two backup dancers (also all in white), she sang her heart out even though her dance moves were impeded. As she performed hits like “Hold The Line,” “L.E.S. Artistes,” and “Go!,” the audience couldn’t help but be grateful for Santigold’s resilience and for Mother Nature’s decision to keep the sky relatively clear and the predicted golf ball-sized hail at bay.The Music at the Gardens shows are a chance to witness artists perform in a picturesque, intimate space, and when the weather holds out as it did on July 6th, they are magical events. That magic was in full effect on this Thursday evening in Denver, and I’m sure it is a show Santigold’s fans won’t forget any time soon.
