Hard Working Americans – December 20th – Boulder Theater

Christmas arrived early at the Boulder Theater as the hallowed venue played host to a special debut performance from Hard Working Americans in the waning days of 2013. Hard Working Americans is the newest super-group to make headlines in the American music scene. The group is spearheaded by the sharp wit of singer-songwriter Todd Snider alongside bassist Dave Schools, guitarist Neal Casal, Chad Staelhy on keys and Duane Trucks on drums.

Yarn – December 13th – Cervantes’ Other Side

Brooklyn band Yarn made a stop at Cervantes’ Other Side last Friday evening and brought with them vibrant personality and energy, igniting a smallish crowd of devoted “Yarmy” that traveled from as far away as Utah and Pennsylvania to see their favorite band perform. Since their inception in 2007, Yarn has become one of the hardest touring bands of this generation. The band’s sound straddles the divide between Bluegrass, Americana and Jam; the result is extremely pleasing to the ears and the soul.

Nightmares on Wax – November 26th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom played host to Nightmares on Wax in a Pre-Thanksgiving celebration that drew a near sold-out crowd to relive the glory days of Trip-Hop and mellow music. Nightmares on Wax is the work of British DJ and composer George Evelyn and Evelyn brought the house down with his devious blend of Funk, Soul and Hip-Hop. The vibe in the building was deliciously chill and it only got better as the night progressed.

Everyone Orchestra – November 16th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

When Everyone Orchestra makes a stop along the Front Range you can always count on a rousing good time and last Saturday’s Flood Benefit at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom showcased excellent musical theater and a community banding together in the wake of the devastating September floods. Everyone Orchestra is the brainchild of composer and vocalist Matt Butler, who brings together a different crop of musicians to jam and create songs for every run of shows.

Lotus – October 4th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Despite the frigid temperatures last Friday night, Lotus, BoomBox and Break Science were back in town. This time there was no turning back following the September 13th performance that was postponed due to flooding and road damage that made travel to the venue nearly impossible. Once Lotus took the stage for their third consecutive headlining performance at the storied venue and the first funky guitar notes of “Wax” rang out of Mike Rempel’s fingers everyone knew it was going to be a special show.

STS9 & Nas – September 6th – Red Rocks

Bassnectar – May 31st & June 1st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Bassnectar roared into Red Rocks Amphitheater last weekend for two nights of mayhem and the result was nothing less than extraordinarily well organized chaos. This marked the 3rd straight year that Bassnectar has blasted the rocks and this years’ performance nearly matched that of the infamous 2011 show. This year featured the best collection of openers to date including masterful performances from A-Trax and DJ Shadow and thrilling sets from Treasure Fingers, Thriftworks, Tokimonsta and Two Fresh.
