alt-J – July 27 – Red Rocks Amphitheater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Shows on Monday nights are usually referred to as “tough,” “inconvenient,” and even of the “take it or leave it” variety but the buzz on the way out of the venue last Monday was about this being the best Red Rocks show so far this summer. That’s a huge compliment when you consider the incredible headliners that have graced the Red Rocks stage recently. With a starry night, warm summer breeze, low humidity, no bugs…it was a “night on the Rocks” to remember!

Alt-J – October 28th – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 3 min read

Amped up twentys-omethings filled the huge venue that is the Fillmore last Tuesday night when genre-bending English rockers Alt-J returned to the venue with a new album under their belt and demand for a ticket reaching new heights. In the band’s rapid rise to the top it seems they have amassed a diverse audience. Stoners, edgy teens, married couples, EDM chicks, hipster kids. They were all there and the band delivered a perfectly executed set, but nothing about the live experience made seeing them something to talk about.

Glass Animals – September 25th – Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 3 min read

Larimer Lounge, one of Denver’s favorite hipster-havens, played host to indie-rock quartet, Glass Animals, last Thursday night. To no one’s surprise, the up-and-coming band sold-out the small venue. Many were openly agitated by the lack of space, but once the music began, the humidity was embraced and the sweat began to drip. Dance moves ensued. Look out for these guys at The Ogden or Fillmore sometime in the near future.

The Ogden Theatre was sold-out Friday night for the return of Los Angeles’ Indie Folk rockers Lord Huron. It was the band’s second trip to Colorado in five months after opening for Alt-J last September. The night had moments of both ethereal wonder and musical celebration as a good mix of twentysomethings filled the floor, aisles and stairways and the room buzzed the way only a Friday night show can. Despite flat sets in the past, Lord Huron finally delivered a performance that matched the beauty of their record.

Alt-J – September 5th – Fillmore Auditorium

By the time Alt-J took the stage at the sold-out Fillmore Auditorium for their much anticipated return to Denver, the heat in the venue had soaked shirts with sweat and there was no hope of moving gracefully across the massive floor packed with twenty-somethings. As the band ran through all the favorites from ‘An Awesome Wave,’ the crowd moved, hands outstretched, to the buzz of the electronic bassline all night. If these guys can continue to produce good music you can be assured they’ll be playing somewhere even bigger next time.
