Rise Against – September 24th – The Fillmore Auditorium
On a rainy Monday night last week, Rise Against assaulted a roomful of rabid fans at The Fillmore with a sound that straddled the line between Metal and Alterative. They blasted the crowd with images of political symbolism on giant LED screens and lead singer Tim McIlrath kept the crowd in the palm of his hand as he used the entire stage to dance, jump, and scream. Was it really a true “Punk” show? We aren’t so sure about that, but there is no doubt it was a high quality concert extravaganza!
PICK OF THE WEEK: The Soul Rebels Brass Band – September 6th & 7th – The Fox & Cervantes’ Other Side
The Soul Rebels have built a career around an eclectic live show that harnesses the power of horns and drums in the party-like atmosphere of a dance club. Their weekly show at Uptown New Orleans spot Le Bon Temps Roulé has been known to descend into a sweaty shout-along as the band mixes up songs from its five studio albums with hits by Jay-Z and OutKast. Don’t miss them in Colorado this week!
Revenge Of The 90’s – March 30th – Stoney’s Bar & Grill
Ah, the 90’s. It was a wild time with 80’s Hair Bands getting devoured by the raging juggernaut out of Seattle that was grunge, and Hip-Hop enjoying it’s glory years. Nirvana fearlessly led the Grunge movement while Green Day showed us all how to blend Pop and Punk to create some ridiculously hooky songs. Speaking of hooky songs, Weezer, Sheryl Crow, and Ace of Base all cranked out a few of their own throughout a decade that was known for the rise of the internet, the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and the first Gulf War.
