PICK OF THE WEEK: Railroad Earth – The Ogden – Fri, Sat, Sun, January 20th, 21st, 22nd

Estimated read time 2 min read

Like The Band before them, the members of Railroad Earth aren’t losing sleep about what “kind” of music they play – they just play it. When they started out in 2001, they were a bunch of guys interested in playing acoustic instruments together. Railroad Earth’s music is driven by the remarkable songs of front-man, Todd Sheaffer, and is delivered with seamless arrangements and superb musicianship.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Drive-By Truckers – Ogden Theater – Friday & Saturday, January 13th & 14th

Estimated read time 2 min read

Drive-By Truckers have always been outspoken, telling a distinctly American story via craft, character, and concept, all backed by sonic ambition and social conscience. Founded in 1996 by singer/songwriter/guitarists Mike Cooley and Patterson Hood, the band have long held a progressive fire in their belly but with AMERICAN BAND, they have made the most explicitly political album in their extraordinary canon.

Frightened Rabbit – April 24th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Let’s face it, Sunday nights are tough nights for those of us that love to see live music – the weekend is wrapping up and the work week lies in waiting. That said, the crowd that slowly filtered into The Ogden on Sunday night may have started out tame and mellow, but slowly ramped up as the night went on and, if Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison’s ramblings were any indicator, gave the band one of their best receptions in a long-while.

Half Moon Run – April 24th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Saturday night’s Half Moon Run show was only a short three months since their last visit, but they had somehow succeeded in jumping from the tiny Larimer Lounge to the Ogden Theatre. The Montreal indie rockers delivered three and four part harmonies over creative percussion and started the band’s US tour to a very welcoming audience

St. Germain – April 13th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

When the doors opened for St. Germain’s show at The Ogden last week, there wasn’t exactly a rush to the stage, in fact it took nearly an hour before there was any kind of crowd. That said, the crowd that made it in by the time the band took the stage ate up every minute of the band’s 100 minute performance.
