Steve Poltz – March 10th – Soiled Dove Underground

I got introduced to Steve Poltz several years ago at the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest in Lyons and since that first show, Steve has been growing on me and has become of those acts I don’t want to miss when he’s around. This show at The Soiled Dove was just over a mile from my house, so there was no way I was going to miss out on the Steve Poltz experience.

While The Congress is typically a powerful electric quartet, for this show at The Soiled Dove they are opting for a more laid back acoustic set-up to showcase songs from their sophomore album, The Game. With this record, the band has progressed further along a career path that’s taken them from here in Denver, where they first formed, back to their hometown of Richmond, VA.

Mason Jennings – May 10th – The Soiled Dove

Mason Jennings took up residence at The Soiled Dover over in Lowry for two nights last week. Listen Up Denver! was in the front row for the first show and we admit we are smitten with this amazing singer songwriter. Playing solo, Jennings ran through old and new favorites as he switched between guitar and piano and even took some time to tell the back stories on several songs. Shamelessly dirty at times, and hauntingly eerie at others, Jennings is capable of manifesting a different mood each time he strikes the first chords of a new song.

The Greencards – June 10th – The Soiled Dove

The Greencards stellar set on Friday night ranged from the fast-picking “Rivertown,” to the freaky “Avenue,” to the achingly beautiful “Ghost of Who We Were,” and they also featured a number of songs off their new album ‘Brick.’ Carol Young’s voice was sweet and pitch-perfect, and the band’s high energy performance wowed the crowd.
