Medeski, Scofield, Martin and Wood – December 7th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 10 min read

It was a brisk Friday night on East Colfax. The streets felt electric and alive and the energy and animation outside The Ogden was no doubt an extension of what was about to take place inside as Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood prepared to take the stage. MMW alone are a band that steps out into the whizzing traffic of the music world, refusing to yield to the traffic lights of convention. But add experimental Jazz guitarist John Scofield to the mix and you have a rebellion on your hands.

moe.peners: Yamn & The Congress – 11/30 & 12/1 – The Ogden

Estimated read time 5 min read

The sidewalks leading to The Ogden Theatre were packed this past weekend, not only because moe. was in town for a two-night run, but because a pair of Colorado’s favorite bands were opening the shows. The lines to get in the door started early and, on both nights, the theater was packed from the pit to the balcony for the duration. It’s not easy task to win over a room full of inpatient jamband fans, but both these bands did it by playing their hearts out and we are proud they call Denver home!

Eva Hollbrook of SHEL Talks Family, Folk, and Zeppelin

Estimated read time 13 min read

Just outside of Fort Collins, four sisters fill a family home with sounds only siblings could make. Combining Classical structure with Folk lyrics, Country catchiness, Bluegrass beauty and an intense passion, SHEL (Sarah, Hannah, Eva, Liza) is band full of depth and delight. Only one album deep into what is sure to be a lengthy career, SHEL has already found success without necessarily looking for it. The Bluebird was packed this past weekend for night two of Greensky Bluegrass. From dready to dapper, people danced and stared as Greensky blew the minds of their home-away from home-town crowd. These guys bring tight vocal harmonies and well thought-out lyrics to an often silly or sloppy Jamgrass scene and their fans love them for it. From covers of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and The Stanley Brothers, to fantastic original tunes, this was one for the ages.

Chipotle’s Cultivate Festival – October 6th – City Park

Estimated read time 7 min read

Last weekend Chipotle’s first annual Cultivate Festival rolled into Denver and was met with frigid temps (for this time of year anyway), grey skies, and even some sustained snow showers. While this unseasonable weather probably kept a few thousand people away from the festival, it didn’t dampen the spirits of those who made it out to City Park bundled up against the arctic blast to enjoy a day of food, drinks, and of course, music. In the end, despite the cold, it was a smashing success in my mind and will be a great addition to the fall out here.
