For their first North American tour, Milky Chance has done pretty well for themselves selling out shows across the nation. Their crowd ranges from large groups of 16-year olds to middle-aged CEOs—all equally excited to catch a peak of their new favorite indie duo. The lights were eclectic, the backdrop was adorned with beautiful dream-catchers and Clemens Rehbein grooved in sync with his producer, Phillip Dausch. The vibe was fun and intense and every time Rehbein pushed back his sweaty mess of hair, the crowd went wild.
It was the day after Thanksgiving, and there’s no doubt there was a still a festive spirit in the air at The Gothic despite more than a few concert goers surely shaking out the cobwebs leftover from washing their turkey down with a few too many glasses of wine. As the clock pushed 9pm, the lines on Broadway stretched halfway down the block and a sea of Hipsters, a smattering of Baby Boomers, and a healthy crowd of 30-somethings were more than a little excited to check out the Nathaniel Rateliff double bill that was on tap for the evening.
Scottish indie rockers Frightened Rabbit and internet celebrity and singer-songwriter Nataly Dawn stopped by Boulder’s eTown Hall last night to share music and conversation. In a taping that will reach over a million listeners both artists shared their music, laughter, and their stories on everything from laundromat gigs to dislike for Mumford & Sons.
Telluride lived up to the hype!!! There were howls at the “super moon,” tarp runs, tributes to one of our favorites, Levon Helm, new friends, and old friends. From The Mayor of Telluride, Mr. Sam Bush, to up-and-comers, Lake Street Dive, the music was top notch from morning till night. Was it all about the banjo? No. Was it all about music? No. Telluride Bluegrass is an experience and the best word to describe it is “legendary.”

Though Listen Up Denver! reviewed countless shows this year, we’ve tried to narrow it down to a few choice picks for our “Shows of the Year.” Some of the biggest bands in the world stopped in Colorado this year, but this list proves that we have some exceptional local talent well. Featured prominently on this list alongside some of the biggest names in the business like Phish, My Morning Jacket, Wilco, Radiohead and Mumford & Sons, are local favorites, The Congress, String Cheese Incident, and EOTO.
The energetic crowd at Steve Winwood’s Paramount Theatre show proved they were no fair-weather set of fans last week. They were the real deal and they were at the Paramount Theater to show their collective love for this amazing musician. With a timeless sound that has transcended genres and also many generations, Winwood performed a spectacular show. He gave the crowd exactly what they wanted, a fun night filled with hit after hit and a twinge of nostalgia.
Just outside of Fort Collins, four sisters fill a family home with sounds only siblings could make. Combining Classical structure with Folk lyrics, Country catchiness, Bluegrass beauty and an intense passion, SHEL (Sarah, Hannah, Eva, Liza) is band full of depth and delight. Only one album deep into what is sure to be a lengthy career, SHEL has already found success without necessarily looking for it. Their music is as natural as the setting they create it in, and forming the band seemed more their fate than a decision.
