Why You Should Go: Jeff Beck and Buddy Guy. There are really only two words to describe these two legends: guitar gods. Beck of course got his start as part of the holy triumvirate of guitar players in the 60s blues based group The Yardbirds, along with Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. Beck’s latest line-up sparkles with fresh talent. Bassist Rhonda Smith, who toured with Beck in 2011, plays smooth jazz/funk to electrified funk/rock and has worked with artists from Prince to Chaka Khan and Beyonce. Guitarist Nicolas Meier has carved a reputation out as one of the UK’s most original musicians, drawing on a love of Turkish and Eastern music, flamenco, tango and jazz. Jonathan Joseph has played with many of the world’s greats, drumming for acclaimed artists including Al Jarreau, Ricky Martin, the contemporary jazz band Yellow Jackets, bassist Richard Bona and singer Joss Stone, and first played with Beck at Crossroads.

Buddy Guy transcends the word legend and was a heavy influence on Beck and many other great guitar players. Coming out of the Chicago blues scene, Buddy played with Muddy Waters as a house musician for Chess Records and went on to have a successful solo career. Rolling Stone ranked him at 30 on their “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” but more telling was Eric Clapton’s assessment as “the best guitar player alive.” It’s true; at 80 Buddy is still one of the most exciting guitar players out there. You don’t want to miss these two masters of their craft when they come to Fiddler’s Green this Sunday.

Nate Todd

Nate Todd was born on the central plains of Nebraska, but grew up on the high plains of the Texas panhandle. With not much to do in either place, music was his constant companion. His parents dubbed the first two albums he ever owned onto a tape for him. Side A was Bert and Ernie’s Sing Along. Side B was Sgt. Peppers. His lifelong love affair with music started early as he practically grew up in a Rock & Roll band, with his father and uncle often taking him out on the road or into the studio with them. Nate began performing live at sixteen and hasn’t looked back, having played in numerous bands from L.A. to Austin. At the age of twenty he was bitten by the writing bug, and upon moving to Denver decided to pursue a degree from Metropolitan State University where he recently graduated with a B.A. in English and a minor in Cinema Studies.
