Campout For The Cause – May 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th – Rancho Del Rio

Estimated read time 14 min read

Imagine a tiny wayside town off the beaten path of another place off another beaten path. This is Rancho Del Rio, site of the annual Campout for the Cause festival. Located four miles from State Bridge in Bond Co and Highway 131, the use of the word “town” for Rancho Del Rio is extravagant. Simply “Rancho,” as the locals call it, is no more than a smattering of small cabins and a local BBQ stand.

Steel Panther – May 7th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Take three-parts huge 1980’s hair, toss in a bushel of big boobs and torn, low cut, tee shirts. Add in a dollop of crazy colors, a dash of bandannas, and then top it off with a helping of loud metal music and lots of sexually charged lyrics. If that’s not enough for you, you might stir in some rabid screaming fans and even an onstage marriage proposal for good measure. Put it all in Denver’s Ogden Theatre for 90 minutes at about 100° and you have yourself a piping hot, ready to serve Steel Panther show in all it’s glory.

Umphrey’s McGee made a triumphant entrance to the Red Rocks stage with Edvard Griegs’ epic “Hall of The Mountain King” blaring on the PA. With drummer Kris Meyers adding some thunder to the backing track and bassist Ryan Stasik pumping up the crowd with the two handed rock lock, the crowd quickly whipped into a frenzy and the band dropped into “Divisions.” This was a perfect way to get things going and the syncopated fireworks displayed by guitar players Jake Cinniger and Brendon Bayliss were a sign of things to come.

Estimated read time 3 min read

A crowd dressed in scally caps, punk rock T’s, boots, bracers, and the occasional kilt packed the floor of The Fillmore last week when the Dropkick Murphys brought their own brand of Irish drinking music to Denver. They opened up their set with “For Boston,” a cover of the Boston College fight song, as a quick tip of the hat to their hometown and all that it had been through recently with the Boston Marathon bombings and then we were off to the races as they played the hits, both old and new.
