Dead and Company – July 5th – Folsom Field

Estimated read time 5 min read

When Bob Weir and the crew rolled in Boulder on Thursday afternoon, it was a scorcher. Folks walking Shakedown were mopping sweat from their brows as they perused booth after booth of stickers, bootleg shirts, heady veggie burrittos, and my personal favorite Philafel with Hummus. While it wasn’t quite as extensive as the Shakedown at Phish Dick’s, it was quite a scene and warmed us all up nicely (pun intended) for the evening.

Dead & Company – November 24th – 1stBank Center

Estimated read time 5 min read

Let’s face it, last week’s Dead & Company shows in Broomfield were not without controversy. Questions like “Should ‘The Dead’ be touring without Phil?”, “Why on earth did Bobby, Phil and Mickey choose John Mayer to fill Jerry’s lauded shoes?” and “I thought they said the Chicago shows were the last ones?” have been bubbling through Head circles for months. What this band made clear on Tuesday is that there is new reason to love The Dead, warts and all.

Zac Brown Band – September 5th – Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Mesh-backed hats, cowboy boots and camouflage covered Country fans flocked to Fiddler’s Green for the first night of country megastar Zac Brown’s two night run last Friday. Drunk suburban moms prepped for a night of screaming with copious amounts of Bud Light but in the end it was a well polished, entertaining show, complete with Dave Matthews Band-esque jams, Pop-Country cheese, and plenty of feel good, sing-along hits.

James Blake – April 28th – Ogden Theater

Estimated read time 5 min read

Last Sunday the Ogden’s stage was lit sparsely with blues and purples befitting the tone of James Blake’s music, with strobe lights being the most adventurous light display of the evening. Apparently the opening act didn’t do much to enliven the audience, so by the time James Blake and a pair of accompanying musicians took to the stage, the anticipation in the room was tangible. Some call his sound post-dubstep or electro-soul but as any concertgoer knows, a label doesn’t matter when an artist hits the stage.

Scott Sharrard & The Brickyard Band

Estimated read time 3 min read

Scott Sharrard is one of an increasingly rare breed of musician in today’s popular music climate. Sharrard’s music follows in the tradition of classic Rhythm and Blues, but his sound and songs are such that it still sounds fresh and vital, like its happening now. While the music is a bit more guitar-oriented, fans of the more recent wave of Rhythm and Blues groups and artists like Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Tedeschi Trucks Band would definitely find a lot to enjoy here.
