Broken Social Scene – October 5th – Summit Music Hall

Estimated read time 6 min read

Broken Social Scene always seemed more like an idea than a traditional band. The Canadian collective was established as a gathering of like-minded artists in Toronto with a laissez-faire philosophy. The various “members” of the group were free to come as they were, when they wanted, and leave the same way. And it worked. Underground Music Showcase (UMS) – July 24th-27th – S. Broadway

Estimated read time 5 min read

Their music is as natural as the setting they create it in, and forming the band seemed more their fate than a decision.

Estimated read time 4 min read

Sporting impressive beards, day-old flannel and t-shirts, and friendly smiles, The Knew and These United States set up shop last Thursday night to play music in front of a faithful crowd at The Hi-Dive. The audience of mostly twenty-something Denverites seemed anxious to hear some good music and weren’t necessarily interested in a cold beer or a flirty conversation. In the late hours of the night, when the lights came up, the bands looked and felt more like old friends of ours than performers.

A Big Break At SxSW May Have Changed Everything For The Ben Miller Band

Estimated read time 4 min read

For The Ben Miller Band 2011 was filled with both heartache and hope. In May, a devastating tornado hit their hometown of Joplin, MO. The Ben Miller Band was on the road at the time but returned quickly to find Joplin obliterated. Listen Up Denver! got to catch up with Ben Miller, and although he recounted some of the devastation, what we mostly talked about was all the good that happened last year.
