  • Every year in Colorado, April 20 really does feel like a holiday. But this year, with the passage of Amendment 64 last fall, Coloradoans were craving that Rocky Mountain High more than ever. Colfax was packed early in the day, and it definitely seemed like something strange was in the air. For the funky dance band known for its sold-out, psychedelic Halloween shows, the weirdness in the air last Saturday could have resembled one of those late October shows The Motet has been putting on for about a decade.

Now shrink that idea into a seven-piece ensemble, add a hip hop sensibility plus a hundred years of New Orleans jazz tradition, and you get the Louisiana sound known as The Soul Rebels. Along with Denver’s own Strange Americans, The Soul Rebels will help celebrate Marquee Magazine's 10 Year Anniversary Party at Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, Colorado!

  • The 90's were back in full force on Saturday night at Cervates' as J2G Live threw their annual 90's Night party with some of the best musicians in Denver doing the heavy lifting. There were tons of costumes that confused the best of 80's fashion (Neon) with the best of 90's (Flannel) and a ton of girls even got their hair crimped for the occasion. It was great to see people getting so into the spirit of the party and it was clear that 90's Night grabbed a firm foothold in the Denver music scene in it's third year.

  • Last Friday Maceo Parker schooled a young crowd at Cervantes' as he funked his way through a 50 year career that has featured stints with everyone from James Brown to Prince. After a blistering set from Colorado-by-way-of-Iowa local boys, Euforquestra, Parker took to the stage in dark sunglasses and grinned from ear to ear as he demonstrated his musical aptitude on sax, vocals, and even jazz flute. Maceo and his band moved the room in and out of Funk, Smooth Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Soul until the clock struck two.
