Deer Tick Desperate To Capture Energy Of Live Shows on Record

Estimated read time 3 min read

In the music industry there is such a huge difference between recording in a studio and performing live. Bands like The Beatles chose to give up touring entirely and focus on the sound they could only achieve in the studio, while other bands, like The Rolling Stones, seemed to focus more on harnessing the energy and power of their live show in studio settings. Providence, Rhode Island’s Deer Tick may not be The Stones or The Beatles, but they certainly are one of the most creatively prolific bands of recent memory.

No more pussy footin’ around about it. Leftover Salmon is no longer on hiatus —that ended years ago. And this year they will officially shelve the “reunion” status they’ve been playing under since they started dabbling in shows again in 2007. No, in 2012 Leftover Salmon doesn’t need a qualifier for their status. Megafaun Combines A Host Of Influences For A Rich Folk Sound

Estimated read time 3 min read

Six years ago, the band DeYarmond Edison called it quits. They had moved from Eau Claire, Wisc., to Raleigh, N.C. together a few years earlier; but that strong southern sun must have cast a different light on the paths in front of them. The group’s vocalist and guitarist, Justin Vernon, headed back to the woods of Wisconsin, while brothers Phil and Brad Cook decided to keep pickin’ in the pines along with drummer Joe Westerlund. The Tar Heel trio declared themselves Megafaun, while Justin Vernon went on to form Bon Iver.

Megadeth’s “Gigantour” And Revitalized Line-Up Prove The Band Is Still Highly Relevant

Estimated read time 3 min read

I, for one, could not imagine a musical landscape without Megadeth. The “what if” scenario of Dave Mustaine staying in Metallica at the dawn of thrash music has just never made sense to me. While I will give Metallica their due as formable musicians I have always viewed Megadeth’s razor sharp musicianship and caustic politically charged wit as a far more valuable asset to the annuls of thrash and heavy metal.

Boulder Bluesman Otis Taylor Set For “Contraband” Album Release Parties At Dazzle

Estimated read time 3 min read

The music business is a fickle mistress. She’s incredibly kind to some for a year or two before turning her back and slamming the door, she dotes on some who clearly don’t deserve it, and often all but ignores some of the best and brightest talent out there. Even with 12 mesmerizing albums under his belt, sadly, Boulder’s own bluesman Otis Taylor seems to fit into that last category.

Widespread Panic Hits Colorado For Their Acoustic Wood Tour

Estimated read time 4 min read

For all intents and purposes, Widespread Panic’s legendary Sit & Ski Tour — which took place 16 years ago and was comprised mostly of stops through various Colorado mountain towns — originally was supposed to be completely acoustic. That was the plan, at least until Panic’s late-great lead guitarist Michael Houser figuratively pulled the plug on the acoustic setup during the tour’s infancy. Now hear what bassist Dave Schools has to say about The Wood Tour, the band’s current acoustic outing.

Roster McCabe Shares Denver’s Musical ADHD, And Helps Cure It

Estimated read time 2 min read

Musical ADHD has been plaguing the Front Range for some time now. The endless choices of music to see, talk about, and keep up with continually baffles minds. Roster McCabe just might be one of the remedies for this rampantly spreading, and serious, affliction. This five piece band out of Minneapolis plays what they have defined as “Funky Reggae Dance Rock,” which I will translate into, “An irie and soulful blend of pop, rock and jam that puts the funk in disco and electrifies R&B.”
