20 Questions with Ignatius Reilly

Estimated read time 4 min read

The best music is made collaboratively. Though new talent pops up regularly, it seems like bands that make the quickest movement to the spotlight are the Frankenstein bands–we all know them. Some are more regular than others. Certainly, every once in a while a musician happens upon another musician, and together they make something that is a graduated version of what they each made alone. When four experienced, talented and well-seasoned musicians come together in this way, you end up with a band like Ignatius Reilly.

All we can say is…we just wish more people were there to see it. In its current formation, Rodina is a new endeavor, and considering the name has virtually no recognition yet, a fair amount of people showed up to check out this who’s who of local and international talent. The Congress – May 4th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Bluebird Theatre was filled with southern charm on Friday night. The Congress may be local, but their roots reach clear across the country. Their home away from home is the South, and according to front man Jonathan Meadows, they “have a huge family from Virginia all the way to Mississippi.” Well those folks who saw them back East before moving out West sure are supporting them here in Denver! A truly powerful power-trio; The Congress put the pedal to the floor from the first note, and they kept it full throttle all night long.

Cervantes’ “Spring Thaw” – March 3rd – Cervantes’

Estimated read time 6 min read

Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom hosted a dual venue event dubbed “The Spring Thaw Showcase” last weekend and seven local bands were given the chance to “showcase” their talents on two different stages. These bands would normally not play the stages they were on, but were given the opportunity… if they provided some sweat equity leading up to the night. Bands were given tickets prior to the show, and they hit the streets promoting the evening, and giving the tickets away so people could get a chance to see them strut their stuff.
