Estimated read time 2 min read

In 2011, after more than 20 years of intense gigging and recording, Chris Robinson set off to shape something new, a fresh rock mythology, a breathing kaleidoscopic thing stuffed with chooglin’ soul, bedrock boogie and shuffling wisdom birthed in intimate clubs and among the tall trees of the Golden State and eventually taken nationwide as the Chris Robinson Brotherhood evolved. Chris Robinson Brotherhood – December 31st – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Estimated read time 5 min read

Chris Robinson took a full house at Cervantes’ on a psychedelic journey through old songs, new songs, and a myriad of influences that could not have happened without his new band, The Brotherhood, standing behind him. CRB is not The Crowes, The Dead, or anyone else…it is a new journey being taken by a group of seasoned musicians, and it is a great trip to take…magically mellow as a mushroom.

Seven hours Southwest of Denver, nestled in a box canyon surrounded by steep cliffs and Aspen trees, lies an old mining town that has been the setting for many a magical musical memory. As its name implies, the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival was started 19 years ago to celebrate craft beer and a specific genre of music; but over the years the festival line-up has became more diverse, and this year’s festivities raised the bar and established Telluride Blues and Brews as a festival that ANY music lover would want to attend.

Little Feat’s Paul Barrere Talks Feat Past and Present

Estimated read time 11 min read

Little Feat is a band that has been in the trenches of Rock and Roll since the revolution began. In 1969, Frank Zappa suggested Lowel George leave The Mothers of Invention and form his own band, and that same year George formed Little Feat with the goal of combining Blues, Funk, Country, Folk, Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll. Listen Up Denver! had the honor of catching up with Little Feat’s Paul Barrere while he was in a hotel in New York, and we talked Feat past and present.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood – July 13th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Estimated read time 5 min read

Friday night at Cervantes’ with Chris Robinson’s new band? Yes please . . . these two things seem like they fit hand in hand. While the show was mellower than expected, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. The band put together two sets of music that showcased their skill and range as artists as they drew on tunes from their recent album, an upcoming one, and of course a few tunes recorded by The Black Crowes. In the end, it was a fun night of music orchestrated by one of the masters of his genre.
