String Cheese Incident – April 28th – The Hill, Boulder, CO

Last Monday The String Cheese Incident celebrated the release of their new album, Song In My Head, with a free, two hour show on The Hill outside the Fox in Boulder. Despite a little chill in the air that forced the “Barefoot Boys” to leave their shoes on for the duration of the performance, the weather held out and SCI played a solid set of music as thousands of fans danced in the streets.

Tractorbeam – January 26th – Fox Theatre

For those not familiar, Tractorbeam is the same line up of as The Disco Biscuits with Aron Magner on keys, Marc Brownstein on Bass, Allen Aucoin on drums, and Jon “The Barber” Gutwillig on guitar. The difference is that for Tractorbeam the band does not sing and does instrumental versions of all their songs. Some like to refer to this as “Bisco Karaoke” because the crowd usually sings along to everything but that wasn’t really the case on Sunday night.

Dark Star Orchestra – October 20th – The Fox Theatre

It’s amazing how music can change the mood of a crowd. Last Sunday Dark Star Orchestra closed their three-night run at the Fox Theatre and left the audience with a glaze of merriment despite the obvious tension that hung in the air in the beginning of the evening. The crowd went from sparse to bustling through the course of the show, and was diverse: families with small children, old hippies and new, and a big blue dancing bear showed up–now that’s some fan deadication.

Brandi Carlile – July 14th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Brandi Carlile’s progression as a musician over the last seven years, from Colorado’s most intimate venues to the world’s best outdoor venue has been meteoric. Her path has included four studio albums, endless touring (including a symphony tour), good ol’ fashion fan engagement, two live albums and an unrelenting, and unmistakable, drive to stay true to herself. If Carlile’s first headlining Red Rocks show is any indication of what’s next for her, there is little doubt that whatever it is, it will be special.

Eliot Lipp – December 7th – The Fox Theatre

When Lipp finally took the stage at The Fox at 11:45 last Wednesday, the room was about as full as you could expect it to be in the middle of the week. With a live drummer set up next to his table of tools, Lipp brought a funky fresh feel to the stage while blending House, Hip-Hop, and many other styles of sounds you wouldn’t normally hear mixed together. In due time we will be seeing Eliot Lipp headlining festivals and solidifying his name as one of the top performers in the electronic music scene. Keep your eyes out for this guy.

Gregory Alan Isakov – October 21st – The Fox Theatre

Boulder was bustling on Friday night as people made their way to The Fox Theatre. Gregory Alan Isakov’s gave the sold-out home town crowd two hours of genius lyrics and near perfect acoustic guitar playing. With songs spiced with highways, salt water, railroad tracks, gasoline, blood, grease and romance, Isakov’s music is some of the most pure Americana played today. He will undoubtedly be joining the ranks of the great American songwriters.
