Crowds swarmed the entrance of the Boettcher Concert Hall last Friday evening to view the collaborative efforts of the Colorado Symphony with none other than singer/songwriter, Gregory Alan Isakov. The mix of indie folksters and symphony aficionados did not prevent the will-call line from becoming a warzone. But upon entering the concert hall itself, the madness ended for a night of humbled elegance.

Laura Marling & Phosphorescent – October 28th – eTown Hall

The intimate eTown Hall was filled with those abreast of the indie folk scene last Monday night for a daringly intimate performance from British singer-songwriter Laura Marling and indie rock act Phosphorescent. The two-hundred seat eTown Hall is one of the most intimate venues in Colorado, and regularly draws artists capable of selling out venues several times its size for the recording of the weekly eTown radio broadcast. Last Monday the crowd sat so remarkably silent that the delicate voices of both performers felt as if they were alone in the room.

A sold-out crowd wrapped around the corner of 14th & Spruce in anticipation of hometown hero Gregory Alan Isakov’s CD Release show at Boulder Theater. After years of waiting patiently for the follow up to 2009 masterpiece, the day had finally arrived. The evening was a great mix of old and new. Gregory joked “We’ve been trying these out on you for years,” which is certainly the case for songs like “Amsterdam” and “The Universe” – both of which made an appearance during Sunday’s show.

Anthology Fine Art recently unveiled a very special photography show entitled “Front Row: Concert Photography by Kit Chalberg.” The show is a 21-piece collection of live concert photography by Denver-based photographer Kit Chalberg who has created images of musicians such as B.B. King, Gov’t Mule, Brandi Carlile, Ziggy Marley,and Michael Franti and has worked countless other concerts over the past three years.

The old dark barn of an auditorium was packed with rolled blue jeans, flannels, and the last summer dresses of the season and it seemed like everyone came with a group of friends, or ran into people they knew, as folks gave out hugs and warm greetings throughout the evening.
