Galactic – March 8th – Fillmore Auditorium

From start to finish, Robert Randolph & The Family Band and Galactic had each person at The Fillmore on their good foot, dancing the winter blues away to jazz and funk music from New Jersey, New Orleans, and even the 16th Street Mall. If you missed Galactic or Robert Randolph this time around, make sure and get yourself some the next time around. On a mid-winter’s night, you really can’t ask for more of a summertime feeling than what you’ll get at one of these shows.

Lettuce – June 1st – Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom

Saturday night was alive with the sound of Funk thanks to The London Souls and neo-jazz+funk band Lettuce. The intimacy of Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom was home to an invigorating late-night dance party that left everyone feeling especially groovy! With an undeniably electrifying jazz-funk that reeks of classic artists such as Tower of Power, James Brown and Kool & the Gang, Lettuce awed and exhausted us. This band is truly timeless and keeping the funk alive!

Back in November, Listen Up Denver! was lucky enough to get The New Orleans Suspects to agree to play an exclusive set at Quixote’s True Blue for our video series “Listen Up Denver! Live.” Yesterday we released “36 Cars” and today you can feast your eyes and ears on “Swampthang,” a driving instrumental that features some great soloing. Tonight the boys are up in Frisco to begin a three show high-country run before hitting The Oriental this weekend for a two night stand.

Live.” The all-star line-up cranked a couple of stellar tunes and we are going to present one to you today, and one tomorrow, as the band returns to our state for a week-long run of five shows that will see them playing three shows in the high-country before returning to Denver for a two night stand at The Oriental.

Maceo Parker – February 22nd – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Last Friday Maceo Parker schooled a young crowd at Cervantes’ as he funked his way through a 50 year career that has featured stints with everyone from James Brown to Prince. After a blistering set from Colorado-by-way-of-Iowa local boys, Euforquestra, Parker took to the stage in dark sunglasses and grinned from ear to ear as he demonstrated his musical aptitude on sax, vocals, and even jazz flute. Maceo and his band moved the room in and out of Funk, Smooth Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Soul until the clock struck two.
