Pretty Lights – December 5th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

On a frigid night on the Front Range, a select group of lucky ticket holders filled The Ogden to see the Pretty Lights live band. This was the smallest venue that has housed Smith’s Electro-Soul in Colorado in years, and the ticket scalpers prices shot through the roof knowing that Smith’s loyal contingent of fans would pay just about anything to see him again in such an intimate setting. As frost began to creep it’s way onto the inside of the Ogden’s glass doors at the entrance, Smith and his band took the stage for the hometown crowd.

Tedeschi Trucks Band & Grace Potter and The Nocturnals – June 15th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

If there is any venue that can evoke awareness of a higher power, Red Rocks is the place. Weather swirling around the naturally spectacular venue caused a slight delay to the start of the evening last Saturday as thunder, rain and lightning threatened from the sky. People pulled out their rain gear, but seemed generally unaffected as they awaited the start of a fantastic triple threat of music from JJ Grey, Grace Potter and Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Soulive & Kyle Hollingsworth Band – December 7th – Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom

Estimated read time 4 min read

Concert-goers escaped a chilly Friday evening as Cervantes’ played host to Kyle Hollingsworth Band and Soulive. With local favorites Good Gravy rocking The Other Side, an eccentric and young mix of Jazz veterans and Jamband stalwarts packed in for a night of smooth vibes and all around rambunctious behavior. Though Hollingsworth kicked things off with an uninspired set, Soulive moved us with a soulful and Jazzy performance.

The Motet Plays Parliament-Funkadelic – October 27th – The Ogden

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Motet’s annual “musical costume” shows on Halloween have become something of an institution here on the Front Range with folks buying tickets early in the summer to make sure they don’t miss out on the madness. This year’s run kicked off on the 25th, stopped in Denver for two nights at The Ogden before heading up to Vail and finally wrapping up last night in Boulder. When all was said and done it was a fun and funky show and while it didn’t top “Funk Is Dead,” everyone in the room had smiles on their faces to the bitter end.
