Tedeschi Trucks Band (Wheels of Soul) – July 28th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Tedeschi Trucks Band rolled into Red Rocks with their Wheels of Soul tour with authority for the first night of the two day run! As has been the tradition the last few summers, TTB was joined by two other powerhouse bands for the duration of the summer. This lineup was perfect from first note to final bow, they came out and bitchslapped the audience, no one stood a chance.

Widespread Panic – June 23rd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

After two stellar shows at Red Rocks in August of 2016, the return of James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem has been the talk of Denver’s music community and the city had been buzzing about this show for months. As fans filed into the arena, the band’s giant disco ball was a welcome site as it foreshadowed the giant party that was about to erupt. There was no shortage of energy in the 1stBank Center and there didn’t seem to be an empty seat in the place as the razor sharp beams of light from the disco ball probed the farthest reaches of the room.

Queens of The Stone Age – October 10th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Queens Of The Stone Age brought their Villains Tour to Red Rocks Tuesday night to a sold-out audience. This late in the season, Red Rocks can be an unpredictable host, but that didn’t stop loyal fans from packing the joint and letting it all hang out in cold mountain air. For most of the fans in attendance, this was the last show at the church of music for the season, a bittersweet but powerful end to a great summer on The Rocks.

Red Rocks played host to yet another perfectly billed afternoon of guitar-driven Rock and Roll. Don’t get us wrong, there was no shortage of great songwriting and singers too, but at the end of the day it was a guitar lovers dream. The day started out with North Mississippi Osborne who set a very high bar but Black Crowes spin-off Magpie Salute was up to the challenge and the night was rounded out by the southern soaked Soul of JJ Grey & Mofro.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead – August 31st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

In stark contrast to the last time JRAD was supposed to play Red Rocks, the weather on Thursday as the show approached was a perfect late Summer Colorado day. The lots were hopping early, and the show was very obviously the go-to pre-party for the annual “Phish Dicks” Labor Day celebration across town at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. As Phishheads and Deadheads rubbed shoulders in the amphitheater, to say the energy and anticipation was high would be an understatement – the place was buzzing.

The Wheels of Soul rolled into Red Rocks last weekend and featured two nights of Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Wood Brothers, and Hot Tuna. Despite some rain early on Sunday, the fans got a healthy helping of Roots, Soul, Rock and Blues that featured more collaborations and covers than anyone could have anticipated. It was a memorable night on The Rocks and one that will likely go down in the lore of the storied venue.
