Tennis & Paper Bird – June 16th – Chautauqua Auditorium

A modest crowd gathered at Chautauqua in Boulder Saturday evening for the return of two young local bands. Both Paper Bird and Tennis hail from Colorado and this marked their first experience with the “musical theater” that is Chautauqua auditorium. It was certainly a beautiful evening and the hallowed auditorium transported the crowd to a different era. It is calm, quiet and played a brilliant host to the angelic vocal talents that Paper Bird and Tennis both possess.

Lance Herbstrong – Meth Breakfast

With their latest release ‘Meth Breakfast,’ the trio of artists known as Lance Herbstrong have created the musical equivalent of William S. Burroughs’ fold-in literary style. Producers Kimal Soliman and Bill Sarver take two musical compositions and fold one over another to create entirely new songs that often surpass the brilliance of the originals.

Tennis – February 16th – The Bluebird Theatre

Thursday night was a special occasion for the Denver music scene. It was a night where yet another local band poised for the big time, would play new songs for the hometown crowd. Tennis, the Denver-based pop band, has released their second full length album, “Young and Old,” and celebrated at The Bluebird before hitting the road on a 26-stop tour that will zigzag the band across the country, ending May 8th in Austin, TX. There is no band in any genre that sounds like Tennis. They are pushing the limits of Pop, and that’s refreshing.

MUTEMATH – January 31st – The Gothic Theatre

The sold-out sign hanging on The Gothic’s box office window was a great way to start a night with MUTEMATH. When the band took to the stage, the crowd and the speakers erupted. A massive screen behind the stage anchored the intense light show that accompanied the performance, and the bass matched the ferociousness of the visual display. MUTEMATH are musical architects who build their songs to dizzying emotional heights and they blew away the capacity crowd with a stunning performance.
