JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound – April 6th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 6 min read

The Larimer Lounge was the hot spot in town on Friday night because JC Brooks and The Uptown Sound were in town. These guys hail from Chicago and have created unique blend of Soul, R&B, and Post-Punk that is 100% pure adrenaline fueled dance music. If the puddles of sweat, flying hair, and looks of pure ecstatic joy on the faces of everyone in the room are any indicator, their sound strikes a chord with the soul and almost demands you move.

JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound – April 6th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 2 min read

JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound has always maintained the work ethic of never just ‘giving a concert’ but putting on a full-on extravaganza packed with theatricality, tons of heart, and buckets of sweat—they can’t help it! Six and a half feet of raw emotion and sweat, with one leather boot planted in gutsy R&B, the other in taut minimalist grind. Snarling at the crowd beneath an afro pompadour, while indulging in a sly wink, singing to you directly, and here to make you dance. What does post-punk soul look like? It looks like JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound.

Star Slinger – March 20th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 4 min read

Star Slinger played a well thought out and very danceable set last week at The Larimer. To say the crowd was “going off” would be a vast understatement. It was, as they say in Hip-Hop culture, “live,” and we forgot it was only a Tuesday night many times. Let’s hope he decides to come back to Colorado much more often. His sounds are so fresh, unique, and eclectic that he could breathe some new life into the Front Range scene.

Craig Finn – February 13th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Larimer Lounge was packed with longtime Craig Finn fans on Monday night and the The Hold Steady frontman didn’t disappoint as he and his band Some Guns ran through a nearly 2 hour set that featured every song off his new record “Clear Heart Full Eyes” and a bunch of unreleased tunes. It was one of the better shows we’ve seen at the Larimer in a long time and reminded us yet again why we love The Hold Steady, Lifter Puller, and just about anything else this guy touches.

The Devil Makes Three – November 12th – The Larimer Lounge

Estimated read time 5 min read

A rough and raw acoustic power house, The Devil Makes Three brought their unique Bluegrass hybrid to the very packed Larimer Lounge this past weekend. The show read “Sold Out” on the website for weeks and the Facebook event page and Craigslist alike were littered with ticket requests. It would suffice to say that a larger venue is in order the next time these guys stop in Denver.
