Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe – October 31st – The Ogden

Estimated read time 2 min read

Karl Denson brought his Tiny Universe to Denver again this Halloween and this time he funked things up a bit with a night of Disco classics that brought the costumed masses to the dance floor. With a set that touched on everything from Barry White to Blondie to the late Donna Summers, KDTU definitely went to “Funkytown” and took The Ogden with them! It wasn’t Studio 54, but it was as close as we’re gonna get here in Denver in 2012!

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Motet’s annual “musical costume” shows on Halloween have become something of an institution here on the Front Range with folks buying tickets early in the summer to make sure they don’t miss out on the madness. This year’s run kicked off on the 25th, stopped in Denver for two nights at The Ogden before heading up to Vail and finally wrapping up last night in Boulder. When all was said and done it was a fun and funky show and while it didn’t top “Funk Is Dead,” everyone in the room had smiles on their faces to the bitter end.

Ryan Bingham – September 29th – The Ogden

Estimated read time 5 min read

Despite what Big Gigantic was doing up at Red Rocks, The Ogden was “Rowdytown” on Saturday night. Cowboy Hats and big hair dotted the packed the room and the sweet smell of Whiskey filled the air as Country fans rubbed shoulders with Rock-n-Rollers. It’s been about a year and a half since Ryan Bingham brought his outlaw sounds to Denver and the big box on stage emblazoned with the words “Welcome To The Fist Fight” signaled we were in for a rowdy show well before the former Professional Bull Rider and his new band took the stage.

Young The Giant – February 18th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

The Ogden Theatre looked more like the Cherry Creek Mall than a music venue on Saturday as hordes of dolled up twenty something ladies gathered for a big night out. Young the Giant has rapidly gained recognition since they signed to a record label, lost a member, and changed their name . . . and they delivered a show that showcased their infectious sound and the passionate stage presence of frontman Sameer Gadhia.

Reverend Horton Heat Talks Laughing, Crying, & California Gurls

Estimated read time 7 min read

Saturday’s bill at The Ogden Theatre could not have got any better . . . unless maybe you beer battered both bands, country fried them, smothered them in Sausage gravy, and served them with a cold bottle of Lone Star. Denver was the final stop on a Colorado leg of the Laughing and Crying Tour and Jim Heath, the Rev himself, took a few minutes on Thursday before taking the stage at The Fox Theatre in Boulder to talk to Listen Up Denver! about the new album, touring, and “California Gurls.”
