The music industry has never been real keen on longevity. Sure there are the legends, the hallowed artists whose names will always be synonymous with lengthy and acclaimed careers. But most musicians realize that if they are lucky enough to get noticed, they better enjoy it, ‘cause tomorrow there’ll be a new darling on the block, and they’ll be all but forgotten. The Jayhawks are one of those bands, or at least it seemed they were destined to be, until a strange twist of fate brought them around full-circle again.

The broad reach that The Wailers created with Bob Marley was reflected by the crowd at The Ogden on Saturday night as people of all walks of life convened to celebrate their love of reggae. It’s long been known that Marley is one of the true voices of revolution, and that his music is the soundtrack to all levels of revolt. Whether it is a teenager locked in his room with a towel rolled at the bottom of a door, or a protest in the streets of New York or Trenchtown, these songs inspired people to fight against all types of oppressors in their own way.

When Matisyahu took the stage on Saturday at The Ogden, the diversity of his vocal range could only be matched by the diversity of the crowd. Fans young, old, black, white, clean shaven, dreaded, and everything in between seemed to be in the same breathless awe throughout the Reggae stars mesmerizing performance as his new backing band, Dub Trio, breathed new life into classic songs like “Darkness Into Light” and “Youth” with their powerful wall of sound.

Ratatat played to a sold-out crowd at The Ogden on Sunday night and delivered a 90 minute set that was full of old and new material. The video backdrop featured everything from psychedelic, Escher-like video mosaics of birds, to looping outtakes from cult films. One hell of a show for a Sunday night in Denver!
