PICK OF THE WEEK: The Wailers – The Gothic – Friday, January 8th

Together with Bob Marley, The Wailers have sold over 250 million albums and have played to an estimated 24 million people across the globe performing an average of 200 dates a year. The anchor of the band is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who in addition to being Marley’s most trusted lieutenant and co-producer, played on countless other classic reggae hits throughout the seventies. The Wailers are undoubtedly the world’s premier reggae and world music group who bring high energy shows to fans across the globe.

Listen Up Denver! is, after all, a Colorado music resource and with Colorado bands Elephant Revival, MTHDS, Euforquestra, Octopus Nebula, Tatanka, Atomga, James and The Devil, and more playing the Desert Rocks 2012 music festival, how could we not follow the setting sun and stream of band busses heading west?

The broad reach that The Wailers created with Bob Marley was reflected by the crowd at The Ogden on Saturday night as people of all walks of life convened to celebrate their love of reggae. It’s long been known that Marley is one of the true voices of revolution, and that his music is the soundtrack to all levels of revolt. Whether it is a teenager locked in his room with a towel rolled at the bottom of a door, or a protest in the streets of New York or Trenchtown, these songs inspired people to fight against all types of oppressors in their own way.
