David Murphy (formerly of STS9) returns to Cervantes’ this Friday with his Pink Floyd tribute “Pigs on the Wing,” which features a plethora of talent from a myriad of musical backgrounds. The band provides audiences with an interpretation of Floyd that harkens back to the early 70s “Live At Pompeii” sound and they surely have something special in store for hard core Floyd heads and music lovers alike.

The Bluebird was a who’s who of the Denver music scene when one of the best young bands on the scene made their headlining debut. There were members of The Congress, Recovery Act, Kinetix, The Whales, YAMN and more chatting with friends and enjoying a night out where they weren’t the featured act on stage. Instead, this night was all about Fox Street and their rough and tumble brand of Funky Rock & Soul. It was a historic performance for Fox Street. Here’s to next year’s Whiskey Social!

Last Friday night J2G Live and Listen Up Denver! threw one heck of a dance party. With jams from the 1960s all the way up to this summer, Colorado musicians from a variety of different bands led the crowd into a groovetastic time warp of wondrous proportions. The lineup included David Murphy of STS9 & Members of The Motet, Euforquestra, Rose Hill Drive, YAMN, Fox Street Allstars, The Congress, DubSkin, Kinetix, Octopus Nebula, The Whales, and many more.

This Friday night Colorado’s best musicians will be traveling through decades of dance music guided by the Dance Party Time Machine. With Pretty Lights at Red Rocks and The Arise Festival in Loveland, Boulder felt like a ghost town. That didn’t stop those in attendance at The Fox Theater from taking in a night of Soul, Funk, and Jazz from keyboard master Robert Walter and openers Fox Street Allstars. While it was a bit of a disappointment to walk into an empty room, things did fill up a bit and it was nice to enjoy the impeccable sound at The Fox without being slammed in shoulder to shoulder with other sweaty music fans.

Cervantes’ Other Side just be made for funky, soulful music, and considering the history of Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, maybe it was. The presence of Robert Walter’s 20th Congress soaked the walls with more soul. The night had a special meaning for local openers Fox Street Allstars, whose bond as a band has been solidified by trips to New Orleans Jazz Fest in search of Jazz, Funk and Soul. Lead guitarist James Dumm excitedly stated, “we have been listening to this band since we were 16. This guy means a lot to us.”

The 90’s were back in full force on Saturday night at Cervates’ as J2G Live threw their annual 90’s Night party with some of the best musicians in Denver doing the heavy lifting. There were tons of costumes that confused the best of 80’s fashion (Neon) with the best of 90’s (Flannel) and a ton of girls even got their hair crimped for the occasion. It was great to see people getting so into the spirit of the party and it was clear that 90’s Night grabbed a firm foothold in the Denver music scene in it’s third year.
