Four things things we cherish here in Colorado are music, winter activities, a good cause, and what was the fourth…oh yeah, beer! Last year a festival made its inaugural run that encompasses all of these things we hold so dear. Recently, Listen Up Denver! had a chance to chat with Chris and Susannah about UllrGrass festival taking place January 29th-31st in Golden.
Colorado has always been a bastion for Bluegrass music; with bands like Hot Rize and Yonder Mountain String Band and major festivals like Planet Bluegrass’s Telluride Bluegrass and RockyGrass putting Colorado on the map as a hotspot for the grass of blue. But now a fresh, new band by the name of Trout Steak Revival has been making their mark on the Colorado scene and is set to take the country by storm.
Set to the beautiful backdrop of the Colorado River, YarmonyGrass is one of Colorado’s preeminent Bluegrass festivals. But it’s not just Bluegrass. Yarmony is three days of River, Music, Camping, Yoga, and Workshops with The Travelin McCourys feat. Bill Nershi, Peter Rowan, Head For The Hills, The Congress, The Drunken Hearts and many more!
The Premier UllrGrass music and beer festival will be held in the Rocky Mountain foothills of Golden, CO this weekend. It will be a magical weekend when the Norse God of snow comes to this little western town to raise his drinking horn to craft beer, great Bluegrass and a crowd that knows how to have fun in winter. Featuring Peter Rowan, Head For The Hills and many more!
This summer, Kauffman, Aijala and Johnston have joined forces with nearly everyone, and this year’s Kinfolk Celebration only solidified this notion, bringing in the fall season with a BANG. Marking the 1-year anniversary of the devastating flooding that took place in the Front Range last September, this year’s Kinfolk brought us hours of original tunes, impressive renditions and one-of-a-kind collaborations, and proved that our local community is stronger than ever.
Rancho Del Rio was home to Campout for the Cause again this year. While over the years it had traveled downstream to the State Bridge venue, this year, founder and promoter, Scott Stoughton decided to return the festival to its roots by placing it back at the pseudo-shanty town/river paradise that sits against the back drop to the usually peaceful Colorado River. It didn’t turn out to be so peaceful this weekend, but we’ll get to that later.
