Sam Beam & Jesca Hoop – June 7th – Boulder Theater

Sam Beam, better known by the moniker Iron & Wine, returned to Colorado Friday night, in support of his latest album Love Letter for Fire, a collection of duets with singer-songwriter Jesca Hoop. Flannel clad Gen X’ers filled rows of chairs well before the start of the show in anticipation of the intimate evening. The stage was barricaded with a large collection of table lamps of various shapes and styles, creating a house show vibe in the thousand person venue.

The Decemberists & Spoon got together for a huge double bill at Red Rocks last Wednesday night and, despite a monster rainstorm that threatened to wash away the sold-out crowd, both bands delivered memorable sets. When all was said and done, one thing was for sure, The Decemberists will be back at Red Rocks and when they are they should be headlining on their own!

The Avett Brothers – June 30th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

The Avett Brothers have permeated every corner of the music market, and the sold out crowd at Red Rocks reflected the nearly universal appeal this band has. The band moved around the stage all night, and put everything they had into the performance. Southern charm, pop-appeal, traditional instruments, sweet has honeysuckle harmonies, and arena rock energy swirled between the rocks, and blew over the nothing but smiles crowd like a full force gale…and we even got “Swept Away” during the encore.
