The Birth Of The Church Of Funkentology

Estimated read time 6 min read

The Church of Funkentology is a religion by definition but a social organization by design. Our mission is to promote, protect, preserve and spread The Funk. We are in our formative stages, but our long term goal is for The Church of Funkentology to be the definitive resource and temple for The Funk. Listening to Funk music, or any music for that matter, is our act of devotion. We worship in front of stages and speakers. There is no “god,” but a central spiritual power we turn to, and that is The Funk. The Funk is a spirit, an essence and a fiery force.

Rodina is a who’s who of Denver talent featuring members of Kinetix, Fox Street All Stars, and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, and the entire lineup is rooted in funk and reeks of Jazz Fest and Jam Cruise.

Megafaun Combines A Host Of Influences For A Rich Folk Sound

Estimated read time 3 min read

Six years ago, the band DeYarmond Edison called it quits. They had moved from Eau Claire, Wisc., to Raleigh, N.C. together a few years earlier; but that strong southern sun must have cast a different light on the paths in front of them. The group’s vocalist and guitarist, Justin Vernon, headed back to the woods of Wisconsin, while brothers Phil and Brad Cook decided to keep pickin’ in the pines along with drummer Joe Westerlund. The Tar Heel trio declared themselves Megafaun, while Justin Vernon went on to form Bon Iver.

Megadeth’s “Gigantour” And Revitalized Line-Up Prove The Band Is Still Highly Relevant

Estimated read time 3 min read

I, for one, could not imagine a musical landscape without Megadeth. The “what if” scenario of Dave Mustaine staying in Metallica at the dawn of thrash music has just never made sense to me. While I will give Metallica their due as formable musicians I have always viewed Megadeth’s razor sharp musicianship and caustic politically charged wit as a far more valuable asset to the annuls of thrash and heavy metal.

Widespread Panic Hits Colorado For Their Acoustic Wood Tour

Estimated read time 4 min read

For all intents and purposes, Widespread Panic’s legendary Sit & Ski Tour — which took place 16 years ago and was comprised mostly of stops through various Colorado mountain towns — originally was supposed to be completely acoustic. That was the plan, at least until Panic’s late-great lead guitarist Michael Houser figuratively pulled the plug on the acoustic setup during the tour’s infancy. Now hear what bassist Dave Schools has to say about The Wood Tour, the band’s current acoustic outing.
