Bouncing Souls – December 30th – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 4 min read

Beanies and parkas were abundant as fans braved negative eleven-degree temperatures for the first of a two-night Bouncing Souls New Year’s extravaganza at The Bluebird Theater last Tuesday night. Despite some sound issues that frustrated lead singer Greg Attonito, the set was fantastic, covering twenty-five years of explosive sound from the New Jersey based band. A moshpit broke out during the first notes of the first song, and people raised fists in the air, clapped, and screamed the lyrics.

Arcade Fire – April 23rd – Pepsi Center

Estimated read time 4 min read

Last Wednesday, Arcade Fire fans turned the Pepsi Center into a Masquerade Ball of monster proportions. For the 10 thousand or so that turned out, it was clear they had been waiting for the evening for a long time. Thousands of fans were decked out in their best formal attire and costumes as the band had requested on the ticket and in the end it made for a much more festive night and proved to the doubters that Arcade Fire fans can dress to impress.

Riot Fest – September 21st & 22nd – May Farms, Byers, CO

Estimated read time 6 min read

After a beautiful day on Saturday, Sunday brought the rain to Byers, Co and Riot Fest. Sunday’s headliner, Blink 182 didn’t hit the stage after midnight due to a long weather delay and the mud that was caked onto everything brought out the inner Punk Rocker in everyone. Clothes were soaked with water and blood but the hardcore fans stuck it out. Rain or shine the tickets said, and many wouldn’t have traded anything for a weekend that brought acts like The Replacements, Iggy and the Stooges, Public Enemy, and Rancid to the Mile High City.

Rise Against – September 24th – The Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 4 min read

On a rainy Monday night last week, Rise Against assaulted a roomful of rabid fans at The Fillmore with a sound that straddled the line between Metal and Alterative. They blasted the crowd with images of political symbolism on giant LED screens and lead singer Tim McIlrath kept the crowd in the palm of his hand as he used the entire stage to dance, jump, and scream. Was it really a true “Punk” show? We aren’t so sure about that, but there is no doubt it was a high quality concert extravaganza!

Street Dogs – May 24th – The Summit Music Hall

Estimated read time 4 min read

In classic Punk Rock fashion, Soda Jerk Presents gave ticket holders four bands for the price of two last Thursday. Years ago, Punk was played so fast, and most bands only knew a few chords, and had fewer songs yet. Back then, you had to have five or six bands on the schedule just to fill up two hours. This was not to be the case when the Aggrolites and Street Dogs headed up a bill that blended several different genres with Punk sensibilities over the course of a lineup that represented a collective 13 or more albums.

Mason Jennings – October 27th – The Boulder Theater

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Boulder Theater was filled with star eyed lovers both young and old, indie-folksters, and only a few young men that looked like they might be more at home at a fraternity kegger when Mason Jennings stopped in. The evening passed with a continual ebb and flow of energy that matched Jennings extensive catalog as he swapped keys for strings and even threw and Auto-Harp into the mix near the end of the show.
